Spa days are no longer just an indulgence, says Linda Higgs, General Manager of Evara Beach Spa in Ft. Lauderdale. We met up with her to learn how she and her team help clients bring their mental and physical wellness into better balance.
BT: Please tell us a little bit about yourself, your background, and how you became a General Manager of a Spa & Wellness Center. What do you enjoy most about working at your spa?
LH: I was a marketing major in college and fell into the hospitality industry to eventually become Director of Sales. When the spa opened up at my previous property, they asked me to Direct the spa. I had no spa experience, but I jumped right in headfirst and absolutely fell in love with the entire industry and haven’t left since.
BT: What’s an easy but memorable way to make a guest feel welcome?
LH: We always strive to create an experience for our guest and to avoid making the steps of service feel transactional. We like to identify if it is there first time at the spa or if they have been here before, learn where they are from and what they may be celebrating to ensure we recognize each person and how we can make their day more memorable.
BT: What do you think are some of the most important things guests look for when visiting a spa nowadays?
LH: Balance in their lives. A place to remove the stresses of life and recognizing a spa day is no longer an indulgence, it is a place of balance, mental and physical wellness. They also look for a clean environment filled with all the small details and elements to appeal to the senses.
BT: What are the most popular amenities at your spa for guests?
LH: Our guest love the salt cave room and to lounge on the terrace overlooking the ocean.
BT: What makes your spa unique? What sets you apart?
LH: The Experience, caring staff, and a sprawling beautiful facility.
