October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October has officially been designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, highlighted through the collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies. At Boca Terry, we honor those that are working hard to find answers and solutions to cancer in all forms, as we take note of the many advances already in place.

Maintaining Hope

For those suffering from the disease, as well as the loved ones around them, maintaining hope is essential. Visualizing a healthy body along with the methodologies to sustain a strong immune system is a tool that we at Boca Terry firmly believe has a power of its own.

The Mind is a Powerful Thing

The mind is a powerful thing. When we succumb to a depressed and negative state, the body often follows. By the same token, when we can imagine ourselves in a perfect physical state, we often rise to the occasion, feeling better through positive thinking and rallying towards health.

Raising the Anima

There are many ways to raise the anima. The arts are a powerful tool for helping those suffering from cancer and other diseases to feel positive and productive, despite everything. Listening to or making music, singing, drawing, and writing are ways to channel energy into something that truly illuminates the spirit.

Expressing Feelings and Thoughts

Many cancer patients find peace and satisfaction in drawing or writing about their condition. Expressing feelings and thoughts can be a powerful catharsis when it comes to dealing with pain or fear. Just the act of getting it out on paper can be a way to bring emotions into the light.

Love

Of course the greatest healer of all is love. Whatever the condition, when a patient is surrounded by the people and things he or she loves, a direct healing takes place, no matter what the prognosis. Whether it is a healing of the body, soul, or spirit, being touched by those who are close is the truest way to find comfort.

An Embrace that is Comforting and Warm

Many of us have been touched by someone who has been or is affected by cancer. Our approach is through love, humor, and finding creative ways of expression. By wrapping our loved ones in the soft robes we create, we find a metaphorical embrace that is comforting and warm. Many hospitals are following suit, ordering our most sumptuous robes to provide a softness to patients that they deserve and need.

NBCAM

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was implemented 25 years ago as a way to educate and empower women. Providing information and access to services, this coalition has given people a strong foundation for supporting and contributing to a cause that will one day become obsolete as we get closer to a proven remedy.
