BT: Can you share your journey into the wellness and spa industry, and what inspired you to become a Spa Director?
KG: My journey to becoming a Spa Director began in the fitness industry as a GroupX instructor and personal trainer. I had the opportunity to teach in a variety of gym and club environments, which gave me a strong foundation in health and movement. It was within the club setting that I was first introduced to the concept of Spa and Wellness, and I was immediately hooked.
The ability to work in an environment that encourages people to make healthier, more intentional lifestyle choices was incredibly inspiring to me. Over the years, I advanced from fitness director to Director, expanding my leadership role while deepening my passion for creating comprehensive wellness experiences that support both body and mind.
BT: What makes the wellness experience at Williams Island Club’s spa unique compared to other luxury spa programs?
KG: Williams Island is a unique luxury residential community, densely populated, highly international, and increasingly family-oriented. The age demographics are wide, and the community itself is vibrant and extremely active. Because fitness is such a central part of life here, when members enter the Spa, we intentionally create an environment that feels calming, restorative, and therapeutic.
Our amenities include hot and cold plunges, steam, sauna, and a heated indoor pool. Our treatment rooms are serene and thoughtfully designed, and our services range from traditional massage to advanced treatments such as microneedling and chemical peels.
In addition, our Wellness Village offers elevated, specialized wellness services that expand beyond the traditional spa menu, giving members access to a more comprehensive approach to health and longevity.
BT: Are there any seasonal trends or treatments that you’re particularly excited about for spring and into summer?
KG: We’ve just completed installation of a beautiful new padel court, and we’re very excited to see it come to life this season. As the weather shifts into spring and summer, outdoor activity naturally increases, and padel will add a fun, social, and athletic component to our members’ routines. It’s a wonderful complement to our overall wellness programming and encourages both movement and community engagement.
BT: How do you and your team at Williams Island Club stay current with spa and wellness innovations or techniques?
KG: We are fortunate to work with exceptional skincare partners who consistently train our therapists on the newest techniques and product innovations. Ongoing education is essential in our industry. In addition, our management team attends major conferences such as ISPA and other leading wellness expos. These events allow us to stay informed about emerging technologies, equipment advancements, and industry trends, ensuring that we continuously elevate the experience we offer our members.
BT: What are your top tips for guests to maintain a sense of wellness and self-care between spa visits?
KG: Consistency is key. I always encourage guests to follow the daily skincare routine recommended by their specialist. Professional treatments are most effective when supported at home. Wearing sunscreen daily is non-negotiable, and equally important is keeping the body moving. Regular movement, whether it’s strength training, stretching, or simply walking, plays a significant role in both physical and mental well-being.
BT: How has the wellness industry changed in recent years, and how has your spa adapted to those shifts?KG: In the fitness world, we’ve seen a strong shift toward functional training and strength-based programming, which has influenced the equipment and offerings we provide.
In the broader wellness industry, there has been a significant focus on recovery and meditative modalities. As digital saturation increases in everyday life, people are actively seeking ways to calm the nervous system and disconnect.
We’ve adapted by expanding our recovery offerings, including red light therapy, hot and cold contrast therapies, massage, and more restorative classes designed to quiet the mind and support overall balance.
BT: How do Boca Terry robes and spa accessories enhance the overall guest experience at your spa, and what feedback do you most commonly hear from members about them?
KG: The Spa is meant to be a sanctuary, and Boca Terry’s elegant, exceptionally soft robes and linens complement that environment beautifully. The tactile experience of comfort is an important part of relaxation.
Our members have very high expectations and refined tastes, and Boca Terry consistently meets that standard. Beyond the product itself, their professionalism and attentiveness as a vendor have made them a valued partner in helping us create a welcoming and luxurious experience for our members.
